The CocoBugs

Who Are The CocoBugs?

The CocoBugs are the oral probiotics we added to our coconut oil toothpaste to combat cavity-causing bacteria, known as the sugar bugsWe call the harmful strains of bacteria the sugar bugs because they feed on sugar and produce acid, leading to the formation of cavities and gum disease. Through clinical trials worldwide, the CocoBugs have shown promising results in safeguarding oral health. These beneficial bugs work by decreasing the levels of destructive sugar bugs (like Streptococcus mutans), balancing oral pH to prevent acid erosion, and boosting the natural immune defenses found in saliva.

The oral microbiome has approximately 700 different species of bacteria. Many strains are considered healthy bacteria, or good bugs, while some harmful strains of bacteria cause a range of oral diseases- including tooth decay, gum disease, bone loss, ulcers, yeast infections, and more. Clinical trials worldwide support oral probiotics positive impact on oral health and the oral microbiome, including the ability to help fight cavities and prevent gum disease.

The specific probiotic strain used in CocoBugs is Lactobacillus paracasei, or L. paracasei. This strain has shown tremendous various oral health benefits, such as:

1) Beneficially influences the  oral microbiome

2)  Prevents cavities by reducing harmful sugar bug levels (more specifically the most notorious sugar bug S. mutans

3) Enhances the immune system protective antibody response in your saliva

L. paracasei occurs naturally in humans, animals, fermented and dairy products. Apart from oral health benefits, it may support overall health by aiding gut microbiome, asthma, flu symptoms, eczema, IBS, and inhibiting certain cancer cells and other harmful bugs like E. Coli (diarrhea) and H. Pylori (stomach ulcers). While generally safe for all ages, individuals with specific health conditions should consult a healthcare provider before using probiotics.
